No matter what passion you highlight in your resume, make sure that you can either explain how that passion enriches your life without interfering with your work, or, even better, explain how your passion and your career are linked.

"When I went to the university, I originally intended to study forestry. I thought this would help me save the environment, by which I meant preserving forests, recycling, and cleaning up lakes and streams. I loved the subject matter I learned in the School of Natural Resources. But some of my friends were studying engineering, and out of curiosity, I had a look at their textbooks. I got interested in metallurgy, and ultimately concluded that there was more than one way to pursue my passion for preserving the environment. I switched my course of study to metallurgical engineering. By working on improved materials and manufacturing methods, I came to believe that I could help preserve resources in a potentially wider arena than what I could affect as a forester in a specific geographical space. That's why I am interested in this job at your company. I believe that participating in the development and manufacturing of automotive emission control products will give me more leverage over something I care a lot about, protecting our planet."
