It is no secret that hopeful GI Fellows are encouraged to apply to many programs to better their odds of matching. In any given match season, the success rate of matching is around 65%. It always puts a little bit of fire under the interviewers if they are aware that you are actively pursuing many opportunities, especially if you are a top candidate of theirs to match with their program.

"I'm really targeting my search for GI Fellowship training to programs that have a high emphasis on research and clinical activities. I have formally applied to many of the reputable programs across the country because I want to give myself the best chance of matching into a reputable program. No matter the number of interviews I complete, I hold your program in the highest regard because of the clinical, academic, and research success that your past trainees are now having in practice."

Great! While the interviewer will be happy that you're most interested in their program, they'll understand your need to apply to more than just one program. To build out your answer a bit more, talk about how you've learned about the success past trainees are having and why you want that for yourself. Plus, are there any other reasons why this program is your top choice? Don't hold yourself back! The interviewer will appreciate hearing about all of them. Good job!

I do have a few other interviews lined up. Still, I am strongly considering ranking your program as my top choice given I have witnessed the excellent quality training your fellows receive from faculty here at Hartford Hospital. My husband also has a stable job here, Connecticut has one of the best schools in the United States and I have extended family in the Northeast. All of these combined, I believe your program will give me the best chance to achieve my long-term goals and raise my family
