Question 12 of 30

What steps do you take to address an underperforming operation in your region?

"I analyze all key performance indicators daily and check-in with those stores that have any red flags. I start with a friendly, personal check-in. Then I ask what they're working on and how they're progressing. I offer praise where appropriate and then offer suggestions when I feel they are needed. It's all about teamwork, meeting or exceeding our targets, and maintaining morale and innovation. If I'll visit the store, I'll take that manager out to lunch, get a full picture of their numbers, and proceed accordingly with an action plan with clear deliverables."

      How to Answer

Objectify the situation, not the individuals involved, and describe how you fostered their strengths and enhanced the functionality of the team. Promote their strengths rather than exploit their weaknesses. They're your team. Focus on how you foster collaboration. Steer away from hard-line approaches. Avoid examples of micro-managing as well. Be universal in your approach.
