"When I first started out working in retail, I learned really quickly how important it is to know how to de-escalate a confrontation with a customer who is upset, frustrated, rude, or angry. In my experience, the most important thing to do is acknowledge that the frustration is valid and listen very closely to everything the customer says. I usually repeat back the problem as I understand it after the customer has had their say so that they know I was listening."
