      Focus Your Answer On

Focus on giving an example of working under pressure related to your role as a healthcare professional. You might have had a patient that went into cardiac arrest while you were assessing them or had a loved one come into the hospital who was injured while you were working. Using the STAR method is an excellent way to formulate your response to this question. STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. Briefly describe the situation, explain your role, the measures you took to solve the issues, and the outcome. The interviewer wants to hear that you can effectively work under pressure as a healthcare professional.

      1st Answer Example

"I work very well under pressure. I can always remain calm and professional when faced with stressful situations. I find the best thing to do when there is a lot of pressure at work is to stay focused. Work stressors do not affect me if I stay focused and do what needs to be done."

    3. Can you work independently, or do you prefer to be closely supervised?

Why the Interviewer Asks This Question

Many companies post they are looking for healthcare professionals who are self-starters and can work independently. While working in a team environment is also required as you collaborate with coworkers and other healthcare professionals, Dignity Health is looking for healthcare professionals who are confident in their skills and feel comfortable working alone. The interviewer asks this question to see that you can work independently and not need to be closely supervised if hired.

Written by Krista Wenz on May 30th, 2022

      Focus Your Answer On

Focus on describing that you work well independently and with teams. The interviewer wants to hear that you can work in different types of situations but that you do not need close supervision.

Written by Krista Wenz on May 30th, 2022

      1st Answer Example

"I am very comfortable working independently. I work well in a team environment as well as independently. I have worked as a healthcare professional for five years and have often worked alone with patients, except when I need to collaborate with team members of other healthcare professionals. I do not prefer close supervision as I am confident in my skills. If I have a question or require assistance from my supervisor, I do not hesitate to ask them."

    4. What would you do if a coworker asked you to help steal?

Why the Interviewer Asks This Question

The interviewer would like to know how you would react if put in an awkward or potentially harmful situation like being asked by a coworker to steal with them. Theft can occur in many ways in the workplace and is not necessarily reserved to blatantly taking a product. Ensure that you are aware of the different ways a coworker may try to pass stealing off as 'no big deal.' Some examples include:

      - Timecard fabrication, also known as 'buddy punching,' where you punch in for a coworker who is not present
      - 'Borrowing' money from petty cash
      - Falsifying vendor or expense accounts
      - Taking items from the lost and found
      - Stealing data or documents containing confidential information
      - Taking expensive office supplies like ink or adding personal items to supply orders
      - Billing false hours or services to an insurance company

Of course, you already know how to answer this question! Express that you would never engage in this type of behavior and discuss how you would go about reporting this type of situation. If this has happened to you in the past, you can talk about the case without providing the coworker's name.

Written by Krista Wenz on May 30th, 2022

      Focus Your Answer On

Focus on letting the interviewer know that you are an honest person with morals and ethics. Make sure they understand that you would never condone or participate in this type of behavior and would report it to your supervisor. You want to avoid saying you would participate in stealing or look the other way if you saw a coworker do something unethical. If the interviewer feels you are untrustworthy, they will not hire you for the position.

    29. What are your salary expectations?

Why the Interviewer Asks This Question

Be open and honest. Transparency is the best choice when salary-based questions arise. The interviewer wants to hear if your expectations are within the company's budget and whether you are willing to negotiate if necessary. The best way to discuss your salary expectations is to use your current earnings as an example.

      Focus Your Answer On

Focus on explaining what your current salary and benefits are and how you would like to stay in the same range or slightly higher, based on your experience. If you are more comfortable giving a range, shoot for higher than you want, so there is room for negotiations. However, you want to make sure you do not name a range higher than the job description lists, or you might talk yourself out of a job.
