The purpose of this guide is to help you customize an impactful thank-you email message for the individual(s) who took the time to interview you. After a job interview, it's essential to send a note of thanks within 24 hours. Better yet - on the same day!

When it comes to the subject line, try to add a catchy title rather than a generic "˜thank you.' Personalize the body of your thank you message as much as possible. You can do this by adding specific mentions from your conversation.

Show gratitude for their time and attention while also using your note as an invitation to further the hiring conversation.

Customize This Example:

Subject Line: That was a great meeting, (name)!

Body of Message:

Hi (name of contact),

It was a pleasure meeting with you today (or specific date), and I want to thank you for taking the time to sit down with me (or Skype, etc.) to discuss the (job title) role with (company name).

Your knowledge of the position and the team was incredibly helpful. I left our meeting feeling (describe the overall vibe). I feel encouraged that, should I be the chosen candidate, I could immediately leverage my top skills to make a measurable impact.

I am confident that my experience in (insert 1-3 relevant skills) will deliver an immediate improvement in your (the hiring company's pain point).

If hired, I plan to (discuss how you specifically plan to leverage your mentioned skills). In my current position, I have (mention a recent measurable accomplishment). I am eager to deliver results like this to (company name).

(Add if relevant) Please send my thanks to the other members of your team whom I met today. It was a warm welcome from the moment I walked into your office.

I look forward to further discussing my qualifications and how I can make an immediate contribution to Company ABC.

Very best,

(your name)

Example In Action:

Subject Line: That was a great meeting, James!

Hi James,

It was a pleasure meeting with you today, and I want to thank you for taking the time to have a Zoom call with me to discuss the Digital Marketing role with Company ABC.

Your knowledge of the position and the team was incredibly helpful. I left our meeting feeling very enthusiastic about the possibilities. I feel encouraged that, should I be the chosen candidate, I could immediately leverage my top skills to make a measurable impact.

I am confident that my expertise in building email campaigns and monitoring Google Analytics will deliver an immediate improvement in your current marketing strategy.

If hired, I plan to analyze your existing email funnel and marketing strategy and make suggestions for optimizing your most popular campaigns. I will add value by creating new and cleaner spreadsheets and systems that track your website traffic results. Then, I will optimize the underperforming web pages. In our meeting, you mentioned a desire to reduce bounce rates. In my current position, I have taken our websites' home page bounce rate of 68% to 40%. I am eager to deliver results like this to Company ABC.

Please send my thanks to Sasha in HR, who arranged our Zoom call. She was incredibly accommodating with my current schedule and always timely in her responses.

I look forward to further discussing my qualifications and how I can make an immediate contribution to Company ABC.

Very best,

Jessica
