Question 3 of 40

How do you typically respond to feedback and criticism of your work?

"Last year, I received a low grade on a chemistry project. When I approached my professor about the low grade, he said, 'You can do better. I expected more from you.' I was taken aback at first, but once I had time to absorb what was said, I realized that he expected more from me because he had high expectations of what I could do. It was a compliment and a challenge rolled into one! I re-did the assignment with more passion the second time around. My grade improved significantly, and I thanked that professor for holding me to a higher standard."

Why the Interviewer Asks This Question

The interviewers at Drexel University's medical school want to see that you are confident and mature enough to accept feedback and criticism positively, even when it is unsolicited, as a medical student in their program. Not all feedback will be delivered by faculty in a friendly, easy-to-absorb manner, and students need to be able to take criticism of their work professionally and positively.

"I try to take criticism constructively rather than personally, and my art classes have really helped me do this because I was constantly getting feedback from classmates and professors. Even if the critique was surprising or hurtful, I try to look at it from the other person's perspective, and there will usually be something I can take away from the situation."

      Marcie's Feedback

Perfect! The interviewer will be happy to hear that you try to learn from the feedback you receive, even if it's hurtful. Can you talk about a specific instance when this happened to you and discuss what you learned?
