The Boston University admissions team wants to see that you are confident enough to take the initiative when the opportunity arises. The goal of your response is to provide the admissions interviewers with evidence that you are a motivated and passionate person who is ready to be an active leader in your school setting.
Behavioral-based questions like this are best answered using the STAR method. STAR is an acronym for Situation, Task, Action, Result. Describe a school-based team project or learning experience where you saw a chance to lead and took it. Be sure to talk about the success of the project and your biggest takeaway from the experience.

"(Situation) This past semester, nearing the end of my Biological Sciences course, we were required to complete a group project. Group members were assigned rather than chosen. Then, the professor asked each group to create a strategy to solve a related issue of our choice. It was challenging to get all team members' input and come up with a topic that was meaningful to everyone. (Task) I saw the opportunity to take on the role of a leader and help guide the group to a decision. (Action) I took the position of team lead and was able to get every member of my team to contribute to the conversation in a way that made them feel comfortable and still promoted their active engagement. (Result) We agreed on the topic, and the team collaboration was quite smooth throughout the project. The outcome was a research paper that made the team feel very proud. We received an exceptional grade, and my peers complimented me on my natural leadership abilities and strong communication skills."
