"I've worked with all sorts of people, and some just aren't social. Some can even be untrusting or wary of people they don't know, and shy people tend to shy away from friendly people. I worked with this one person who was nice enough, and they did a good job day in and day out. We got paired up on a project together, and they were a bit evasive and grouchy with me at first. So I gave them space when they seemed to need it. I kept plugging away and would do little extras to help them whenever I could. Eventually, they warmed up to me. I kept scratching their back, and when they scratched mine, I gave them the appreciation they seemed to need. We finished the project early, and I sang their praises, wanting nothing in return. The next thing I knew, this person started treating me like their best friend. And you know what? We're good friends still to this day."

This question is layered. The interviewer wants to understand your team mentality and communication skills and determine whether the challenging co-worker in this scenario was you. How you interpret this question will give your interviewer insight into your outlook on the world. Therefore, you'll want to present yourself as a team player, openly and equally accepting of everyone on your team. Objectify the situation, exhibiting an emotionally mature perspective, and how you navigated this terrain, ultimately leading to a successful resolution. Focus on the positives, such as enhancing camaraderie, team collaboration, diplomacy, and how the overall outcome benefitted the team.
