Being the best at what I do, whether it be work-related or a pickup basketball game, if I am not the best, I will develop my skills to get there.

Nice start! It's important to improve upon your skills and exceed your own expectations. But, going deeper, how would you define, or go about being the best at what you do? Being the best is a great aspiration, but how do you know when you've achieved that aim?

“I’ve never been satisfied with the status quo. That’s just meeting expectations, and that can be fine, but I aim to be the best at everything I do, and that means going above and beyond expectations. So, whether I am the best at my work, or the best player during a pickup basketball game, if I am not the best, I’ll develop myself until I get there. That raises the question of how I know when I’ve gotten there. I am constantly evaluating results and contrasting them to my previous achievements. If it falls below my previous record, I shoot higher. I don’t always hit the mark, and I take what I’ve learned from those failures and apply them forward. Oh, when I am learning along the way in a manner that could perceivably aid in my future success, I look at that as a win as well.”
