"I was working with someone who was leading a team project. I had prior experience with this project and offered advice about how to approach the work. They resisted my help at first, saying they needed to do it their way. I respected their boundaries but observed from a moderate distance. This person asked each member of their team to volunteer for duties, and some of them were interested in their roles, hoping to learn some new skills from the experience. However, this was missed in their communication, and there was little mentoring being done. Soon their project started falling behind. That's when I volunteered my help again, and they grudgingly accepted. I suggested restructuring the teams according to talent and prior experience for the sake of meeting deadlines. I suggested instructing in detail not only what each team member had to accomplish and by when, but why each task was important and how each piece fit into the big picture of the project. "I am always observing what is happening around me. If I see someone doing something I am doing, but in a better way, I tap into that and ask for their insights. I also do the same and offer suggestions when I see a coworker doing something that can be done in a better way. That, to me, is what teamwork is all about. But I also try to observe myself as others see me and outperform my personal best.
The last time I challenged myself was managing my time with a project. I had some ideas to deliver above and beyond. To make that happen, I pushed my deadline up to a personal deadline three days ahead of schedule. Things were going well, and I would have hit that target if a member of my team hadn't gotten ill.
