Question 32 of 40

Describe a time when you disagreed with a company rule or policy. How did you react?

"(Situation) When I interviewed to work as a server for Restaurant ABC, they let me know that they had a strict no facial hair policy. I had a short, very tidy beard at the time. (Task) I found this rule to be a bit aggressive; however, I had to comply if I wanted the job. (Action) The hiring manager shared with me that the company had previously experienced issues with servers having unruly beards. I expressed that I understood the policy, and I agreed to shave my beard. I chose to respect this workplace policy and set a good example for others. Although I prefer to have a neat beard, I complied with the rule because I respect my company and employer. (Result) My leadership team has appreciated the fact that I am compliant and set a positive example."

  • 32. Describe a time when you disagreed with a company rule or policy. How did you react?

      How to Answer

Panera Bread will have company rules and policies to protect their customers, their employees, and their business. The interviewer wants to hear that you are not a rule-breaker, and you will support the policies in place regardless of your understanding of the rule or desire to comply. It is okay to disagree at times; however, the interviewer wants to know that you would handle this type of situation professionally.

When asked to 'describe a time when,' the interviewer is looking for a specific story-based example. Form your response using the STAR framework. STAR is an acronym for Situation, Task, Action, Result. This framework will allow you to develop an answer that is both impactful and well-organized.
