Question 2 of 35

What is a work-related weakness that you are actively working to improve?

"I am currently working on my ability to remain organized. When I get busy, organization is often the first thing that I lose control of. I want to be better at establishing systems that keep my desk, computer, and mind clutter-free. To do so, I am intentional about scheduling time to my calendar to tidy up my space and make sure all paperwork gets where it needs to be. I've also asked my current manager to keep me accountable, so he checks in on my organization as part of our biweekly check-ins. I also arrive to work early on Mondays to ensure my email inbox is organized and all paperwork is in the correct place, as well as plan out my week intentionally so I can perform at my very best."

      How to Answer

In asking this question, the interviewer is not just looking to hear about something you struggle with. After all, everyone has certain weaknesses and areas they can improve upon. This is an opportunity to highlight something that you have to devote specific attention to and name some concrete steps you've taken to improve upon the weakness. Taking steps to combat weaknesses shows humility, self-awareness, and a desire to improve. Think about something that others have pointed out in you as an area in need of improvement and share what specific steps you've taken to try to improve in that area. Consider this a testament to your work ethic and integrity.
