Share a personal story or a barrier you've overcome that gave you the skills needed to teach. Some examples could be your own difficulty learning in school, a goal you met that was difficult to reach in school, hobbies, or professionally, or what you consider your biggest roadblock as an adult. All of these will show your ability to work through difficult times and show how that's built strength and knowledge for your career.

"I was not a good student when I was younger. I barely graduated high school. When I began college on a music scholarship, I quickly realized that what I had needed for so long were teachers and ways to learn that fit my personality. Understanding how difficult it can be to learn information has allowed me to understand the importance of teaching in a way that reaches multiple students and that gives them a chance to learn in a way that works for them. I think my experience having difficulty learning has prepared me to be a more strategic and thoughtful professor."
