Question 2 of 28

Tell me about a time that you disagreed with a supervisor.

"For a long time, I was really afraid of approaching any supervisor about ideas or concerns I had that went against what they were saying, but recently I was in a situation where I really had an ethical problem with a decision that was made by my manager. I thought about it for a couple of days, and then I asked her if we could have a short meeting to discuss it. I told her about my concerns and the problems I had with her decision, and she was very gracious about it. She said she hadn't considered the situation from my perspective and was grateful that I had come directly to her to discuss it."

      How to Answer

We've worked hard to build a strong, healthy environment for our workers in our Shoppers Drug Mart stores. We believe that great teams are built around strong communication and an open exchange of ideas between mutually respectful parties. That's why we allow space for disagreements between managers and associates -- disagreements don't have to turn into arguments as long as everyone is respectful and kind. Have you ever had a disagreement with a supervisor? How did you approach that situation?

      2nd Answer Example

"I was recently helping my manager reorganize the sales floor because we were set to install a huge new in-store display the next day, and we had a disagreement about how to approach the reorganization. We're both pretty stubborn people, but we've worked together for a long time and respect each other. We laughed off the tension, took a breath, and talked about our different ideas. We ended up combining our strategies and it worked out great!"
