Clinical trials are essential for moving new methods of preventing, diagnosing, and treating cancer from the laboratory to physicians' offices and other clinical settings. The ultimate goal is to improve care and quality of life for these patients. Still, many people have varying opinions regarding whether or not patients should be subjected to something that is not proven to be effective. The interviewer is getting to know you and your thoughts regarding evolving medicine. You are not required to agree with clinical trials; just share your thoughts.

"I think that clinical trials for any disease are a crucial part of developing effective treatment options for patients. I do understand that many people do not agree with the idea and, to a point, I can see why. Nevertheless, I believe the benefits outweigh the risks in the end if it means we can discover new ways for treating patients in hopes for a cure."

"I believe that any patient has the right to be a part of his/her treatment plan and it is up to each patient whether or not he/she wants to participate in a trial. There are times when a new, unproven method may be the only option left."
