"A customer called me very frustrated about a problem with a shipment. I listened and told them I would be happy to help. I asked more questions to understand the problem and then suggested once I had a better idea of what might solve it. The customer was very relieved and grateful that I took the time to listen and make sense of the issue."

"If I have a customer complaint, I have been trained to actively listen, do not interrupt, and repeat back to the client in their own words. This technique prevents further misunderstanding and helps the client to feel they are listened to and cared for."

I handle customer complaints pretty well, given my calm and cool nature. I know how to take a step back, reflect, and do what I need to do. For example, when I was a soccer referee, a soccer player slide tackled a kid with the ball and the ball flew out of bounds. I did not think much of it, called it the opposing team's ball, and that was it. But slide tackling was illegal, and so one of the parents got really upset that I did not reprimand the player and didn't penalize the other team. The parent yelled at me and I told him I would be more than happy to talk during a break, but that didn't calm him down. So I told him my point of view, apologized on my behalf for my mistake, and tried my best to mitigate any more hostility. I feel I did a great job handling this situation.
