It's not like I don't need positive reinforcement. Everyone does. But I made a point to find it in other places instead of expecting it from my patients. Nowadays, I make an effort to expressly thank the people I work with when they do a good job. I focus on being grateful to be allowed to see private, raw, emotional parts of people's lives."

Sometimes patients go through so much it might be hard for them to be thankful. Nursing is a very meaningful career for me, and just by knowing that I can help keeps me motivated. When I come home from work sometimes, my nine years old daughter asks me, mom, how many lives did you save today? It gives me happiness that I am able to save lives.
