What are the benefits of having working relationships with other banks?

"It's important to build relationships with other banks so you can get referrals when appropriate and so you can also make referrals. For example, a local bank may not offer a certain product or service, so if a customer comes in and they cannot acquire them, they will refer them to another bank in the community with a good reputation and whom they have a relationship with. There may be customers who do some of their banking with your bank and have loans or other products at another bank, so it's important to collaborate and work with other banks when necessary."

The interviewer would like to hear that you understand the value of working with other banks and that you have experience in this area.
