In recent years, Aetna has decided to have more and more of its workforce telework from home. If the role you are interviewing for is remote, your interviewer wants to hear that you have a plan in place for how you will work from home successfully.

"I was able to work from home a few days a week in my last role. I follow a specific routine. Working in pajamas does NOT happen in my house- I dress as if going to work, go to a specific office space in my home, and take regular breaks as I would in the office. I utilize Skype and chat features to keep in touch with colleagues, so it doesn't feel isolating."

"I enjoy the flexibility that working from home offers. Last year, when I was in school, I had several online courses. I made sure I was in a quiet place, free of noise and distraction, so I could fully focus on the material. I also took advantage of the online communities, so it felt like my "classmates" were accessible. I also met with people face-to-face when I had the chance. I would use all of these tools in this position."

In reality, some people can't handle the lack of structure that working from home entails, so you'll need to stress that you can be very productive in this environment. If you have experience teleworking, that is great! Discuss the details of your work schedule, your role, and the tools you used to be effective in your work. If this will be your first venture in teleworking, be sure to come to your interview with a plan for success.

I have been working from home as a highly successful employee for at least 15 years now. I have a dedicated room as my office. The room is not used for anything else. I'm the only person here all day so it's a quiet and good work setting. At the end of the day, I power down the computer and turn off the lights.
