The health insurance industry is strongly influenced by changing legislation. How do you stay current with new rules and regulations that impact our industry?

In recent history, the government regulation of the health insurance industry has changed how Aetna does business. No matter your future role with the organization, you need to ensure that you are aware of changing laws and how they will impact your work. With this question, your interviewer wants to make sure you are staying up to date with changing regulations that impact your work and that you are motivated to do so.

"I subscribe to several blogs on this topic and read the news. I try to take 15-30 minutes a day during lunch to read. If anything I'm hearing would cause a major process change, I think about whether or not I can handle it for my team or if it needs to be taken to my leader."

"I joined an association that sends out updates when a regulation changes that could impact our function. We talk about best practices at each of our companies and share information. I also have a solid network of professionals across the industry that I converse with regularly."

You have to be aware and able to recommend changes that need to happen in the organization to comply. Discuss how you stay current in your field and the changing regulations that come with it. This can include any journals you read, any CME you pursue, and any organizations you belong to.

Are you a member of any professional organizations that help you stay up to date? Are you a member of any company committees tasked with reviewing and communicating coming changes to others?
