"This happened not long ago. It was in the middle of a traditionally slow period. We'd just finished inventory and were taking advantage of the downturn in business to reorganize our warehouse. I was in charge of this project to streamline all our shipping and receiving systems when a very important client placed an emergency order. This was a huge order, and yet picking this order was problematic and had the potential to create a lot of new disorganization and disruption to this warehouse restructure we were right in the middle of. So instead of creating more chaos and disruption, I created a temporary warehouse map that was a mid-reorganization picking system. This way, we were able to leave everything exactly where it was without disrupting the previous system mid-transistion. There ended up being zero rework, and spending this little extra time on the forefront was the greatest time saving scenario. After we got this emergency order off, we lost zero progress and picked up the warehouse project right where we left off."
