2. Tell me about a time you faced uncertainty in a work decision. How did you approach it?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Ambiguity is an inevitable part of most jobs and will most certainly be something you'll deal with on a daily basis within the investing space. Your interviewer wants to know that you are comfortable with uncertainty and can use solid logical reasoning skills to find the best path forward.
Written by Rachel Hills on December 26th, 2021
How to Answer
While some employers are okay with answering an exhaustive list of questions you might have, know that most employers won't want to hold your hand through every project. In your answer, emphasize that you can effectively manage uncertainty and won't need your hand to be held every step of the way. Using an experience as an example, demonstrate your ability to run with a situation even if you don't have each piece of the puzzle.
Written by Rachel Hills on December 26th, 2021
1st Answer Example
"I think that uncertainty keeps the job exciting, so I can assure you I'm comfortable not having every piece of information. When I worked for a tech startup a few years ago, each day presented new challenges and uncertainties that we had to tackle. Our first time onboarding a new client was particularly challenging, as we didn't have precedents in place. I handled this uncertainty through diligent preparation in the weeks leading up to our kick-off call. I did extensive research on the client, made sure I was comfortable with our project management tools, and created various contingency plans. Overall, the onboarding went well, we developed a close relationship with this client, and our work with them remained productive and robust. Even though they were our first client and we had no blueprint to follow, I approached the situation by listening closely to the client's pain points and developing subsequent deliverables to address each one."
Written by Rachel Hills on December 26th, 2021
2nd Answer Example
"As I'm sure you and your team are well aware, last year was a particularly volatile one for the market. As a result, I dealt with uncertainty daily. Over time, I became quite comfortable with this uncertainty and communicated it effectively to my clients. I found that regular communication and thorough plans for varying scenarios were the best way to deal with uncertainty. Further, I became comfortable with changing my course of action at a moment's notice depending on a client's risk tolerance and financial goals and other outlying and emerging factors."

27. What questions do you have for me?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question

31. What would your approach be for introducing (XYZ) product into a foreign market?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Depending on the role you're applying to at Robinhood, you may be asked a few case questions. These questions give you the opportunity to apply your knowledge to real-world business challenges while giving your interviewer a better idea of your analytical ability and problem-solving skills.
Written by Rachel Hills on December 26th, 2021
How to Answer
The answer you give to this question is less important than highlighting that you have a methodical, thoughtful approach to addressing business questions like these. Start out by giving a concise outline of the framework you would take in introducing a product into a foreign market. Give a thoughtful explanation of why you would take that approach, sharing your analytical thought process and using quantitative reasoning whenever possible to back up the decisions you make.
Written by Rachel Hills on December 26th, 2021
Answer Example
"I would need to know more details to get into the specifics of my approach to introducing a Robinhood product into a foreign market, but at a high level, I would say that the three main components of my approach would be to research, engage with local stakeholders, and evaluate. First, I would set up a team to engage in foreign market research to see how we will need to adjust our strategy to be effective in the local context. Building on this research, I would make strategic partnerships with local stakeholders to help effectively introduce the product into the new market. Finally, I would set up a comprehensive system that would allow us to both qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of our product strategy. We would use those results to adjust our approach as needed."

32. What are your salary expectations?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Ah, the dreaded salary expectations question. Hiring managers ask this question for multiple reasons. It may be an opportunity to lowball you with an offer, or it could be to ascertain whether your expectations are in line with what they can realistically offer you.
Written by Rachel Hills on December 26th, 2021
How to Answer
Interviewees often feel uncomfortable discussing compensation, worried that they will give a number that's too high or too low. Answering this question tactfully requires a delicate balance of knowing your professional worth, while also understanding what Robinhood can realistically offer you for compensation.
Rather than giving a specific number, it's best to provide a realistic range that allows room for negotiation. It's helpful to do your research beforehand using various online resources to ensure that you have a good idea of the salary range. If you're unsure of a fair range for this position, this question is an opportunity for a discussion with the interviewer. To avoid pigeonholing yourself into a salary that's lower than what they might offer you, you can ask your interviewer to share the typical salary range for the role.
Written by Rachel Hills on December 26th, 2021
1st Answer Example
"I'm looking for compensation that's in line with my qualifications and experience. Given my graduate degree and six years of experience at (XYZ) company, I'm seeking compensation in the range of $130,000-140,000."
Written by Rachel Hills on December 26th, 2021

33. This role requires a basic understanding of programming. Which languages would you consider yourself fluent in?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question

How to Answer
Research Robinhood as much as you can before your interview so that you can discuss the specific languages they work with. The need for programming knowledge (and which languages, in particular) will depend on the role to which you're applying. Some roles may not require any previous experience in coding, while others will require at least a rudimentary working knowledge.

1st Answer Example
"I've worked with a broad range of programming languages through various professional and academic projects. I consider myself fluent in C++, Python, and PHP.
