When sharing your most significant accomplishment, tailor your answer to your audience. According to Jeff Bezos, a valuable lesson he learned while building Amazon was "the path to success is anything but straight. Success can come through iteration: invent, launch, reinvent, relaunch, start over, rinse, repeat, again and again." So when sharing the story of your greatest accomplishment, let them know why this particular success was so significant, and describe the determination it took to get there.

"The greatest accomplishment in my career was graduating from university as an honors student while working full-time in a related field. I was at the top of my class and working full-time. This accomplishment showed me that I could dedicate myself to my career and reach the goals I set for myself. It felt great to accomplish so much and be recognized for my dedication."

"I have many accomplishments of which I am proud. Overall, I would say that my greatest work accomplishment is my positive reputation in the software development industry. Tech is a large industry, with many professionals fighting to find their voice. I'm so proud to have carved a distinct career path for myself despite the challenges."

"It may sound cliche, but reaching this level of accomplishment in my career and feeling prepared for this opportunity is the greatest accomplishment of my career. And tomorrow will bring my next greatest accomplishment, as will the day after that. I am very competitive with myself, always trying to beat my previous best. My parents taught me at an early age to map out my goals and develop a plan. This later evolved into developing a career plan, and as a result, I have a strong track record for accomplishing my goals."

One of the big car companies in Canada asked us to create an online customization ad that used the map API. The challenge was that our ad template solution did not support the key use case. It would require an enhancement to the existing template functionality. Given the importance of the revenue stream, I felt compelled to deeply research how the map API worked within the ad template. When I had a way to implement a solution, I immediately ran a test, and our first demo was sent out within three weeks, and the campaign went live with the solution I suggested. The client was very impressed and decided to add 30% more budget to run the ad for a longer time.

This achievement sounds like something you should be very proud of - nice work, and great use of the STAR framework when forming your reply (Situation, Task, Action, Result).

"I am proud of many of my accomplishments. One is establishing a complete development center for our parent company. When I joined a startup, we worked in a make-shift arrangement as a small team in India. Given our quality of work and commitment, I convinced my bosses to establish a full-fledged development center in India as a separate entity under the parent company. Given the quality of our resources and our future potential, my CEO agreed, and we had a complete business set up in India under my leadership. I am very much proud of being a person who is committed to goals. In March, I decided to use my time to learn AWS services and achieve certification as a Solution Architect Associate."

Rachelle's Feedback
Terrific! You should be very proud of your accomplishments. At the end of your reply, you may also want to include a qualifying statement of how you will continue these accomplishments should you be hired into this new role.

My greatest accomplishment was during my first Internship while I was completing my Master's degree. I was working full-time and graduating at the same time. I learned so many things during that time. It made me feel confident that I could achieve my goals by using good multi-tasking skills and working hard.

Rachelle's Feedback
This would have been a demanding yet exciting time, indeed! To help bring your experience to life, I suggest discussing in more detail what you learned during that time.

I was asked to be part of an acquisition team as NA Channel Manager. We seemed to be constrained by limited deployment resources. Most implementations were around ERP or CRM ISV solutions. I needed more deployment arms and legs quickly trained to get POC's completed so we could meet our expected 25M sales target. I rolled out a simple channel activation model with five existing IBM ERP/CRM partners. I needed their full attention, so I chose the smart and hungry ERP RSIs. I led the effort to roll out a quickstart partner enablement. Within four months, 4 of 5 partners had two or more POC's complete and were onto implementation. Over the next 18 months, revenue grew to 170M.

Stephanie's Feedback
Great response! You do an excellent job of quantifying your impact and showing how you contributed to revenue growth.

I believe it's the reputation I have built so far in my current job, during those past 4 years as a Recruiter, where clients feel they can trust me, they know who to call whenever they have a need or an issue (and they know they would get help from me too), which is also reflected in the appreciation I receive from candidates - who most of the times become colleagues or new hiring managers/clients.

Amanda's Feedback
Great! Building a solid reputation as a customer-focused problem-solver is certainly an admirable achievement. You can make the response more impactful by telling the interviewer how many clients or recruiting projects you handle simultaneously, or how many candidates you're able to place monthly or quarterly while troubleshooting issues. Providing specific numbers helps to quantify your accomplishments and give better insight into your level of expertise.

15 years ago, I took on the challenge of co-founding a startup to solve the problem of drive-off fuel thefts in Australia. This required me to pitch to venture capitalists, develop AI-powered image-processing software, control network cameras, read serial data from legacy hardware, and develop the go-to-market plan. At the time this was all new to me. But with a learning mindset and a lot of dedication and hard work I was able to take a world-leading product to market in 2009.
Marcie's Feedback
Wow; that's amazing! This is definitely an accomplishment worth mentioning, and the interviewer will undoubtedly be impressed. Why would you say it's your greatest accomplishment, though? Because of its magnitude? Because of the learning curve? Because of how much it impacted others? Consider clarifying this; otherwise, excellent job!

I have so many accomplishments in my career that I am proud of. I would say my greatest achievement is being recognized by the North American executive leadership as a leader. Where my last 2 roles put me in management positions to create winning teams. And when I was at a user group in NOLA in April I came in contact with the CEO of _____. The first words and last words he said before he left were I want you back on the team. All my individual and team contributions and hard work paid off.
Marcie's Feedback
It's great that the CEO of the company you worked for recognized you verbally. Can you clarify why you were no longer on the team at that point? Also, did he remark on anything you had done or say why he was impressed with your work? Make sure to emphasize the skills you used to build your teams and show how they are transferable to this new role. Good job!

My biggest work-related accomplishment was winning over the hearts and minds of a major global client so much that when it came time for them to go to tender again, they didn't and instead renewed with our company immediately. I had worked on several projects for them successfully becoming a trusted advisor for them and being asked back to do more work. In particular, I worked on a cluster automation project for them that despite taking longer than expected had delivered a well-documented, fully-working, with no bugs that I can remember, solution. It was my dedication to assuring that the solution was not only good enough but complete and easily handed over to their operational staff whom I trained to use the solution. That project amongst many others was a huge success.
Marcie's Feedback
Great! This is a good work-related accomplishment to talk about because it shows how your actions benefited your former employer (i.e., the client renewal). The interviewer will therefore be able to envision you doing the same for their company. It also gives the impression that you're trustworthy, hardworking, and thorough. Excellent response!
