This question is directed at determining how well you perform when faced with challenges in high-pressure, potentially stressful, situations. HireVue's rating systems suggest that a novice will be more likely to suffer from task paralysis and procrastination, not reacting quickly in time-sensitive situations, and being afraid of making the wrong choice. Whereas, an expert will exhibit resourcefulness and decisiveness, making informed decisions and taking calculated risks.

Delta expects their employees to, "be decisive and do not delay. Speed Wins. Speed in execution is the difference between success and failure. Rely on your colleagues and be reliable for them."
Delta's President, Ed Bastian elaborates on this point. "Staying very, very close to your team, to your people, to being authentic, to being transparent. It's easy when times are difficult to want to shy away when you don't have the answers to the questions that you need. It's never more important to be visible and let people know what you know and what you don't know. And we still, to this day, we have a lot of questions that we don't have the answers for, but people respect the fact that we're honest with them."

If you want to establish yourself as an expert in HireVue's proficiency rating system, you want to showcase yourself as an emotionally intelligent individual capable of objectifying what needs to be done in high-pressure situations. You want to relate how you can think quickly on your feet, overcome challenges, lead by example, while creating a sense of urgency with a positive can-do attitude.

"Well, there were several members of our team who were debating the best approach to solving a situation with a very upset customer. But our supervisor wasn't around to make the call. The request the customer was making to remedy an issue they claimed had occurred seemed out of the norm. Although I hadn't seen our manager ever approve a request quite like this, or which pertained to this particular situation, I had payed close attention to other judgement calls they made. So, I decided accommodating their request was too great a risk, and explained to the customer that they would have to wait until someone who had the authority to make such a decision was on premises. When they insisted, I politely told them no. Then, when our manager walked in, this customer noticed and their demeanor changed and they quietly retreated and left the store. When our manage noticed they seemed to already notice what was going on and explained that customer had tried this before and that we made the right decision waiting."
