For all roles at USAA, you will be required to effectively communicate with your team members, supervisor and other members of other teams. Cross collaboration is important at USAA and the interviewer wants to make sure you possess that skill. Talk with them about how you've effectively communicated in the past to partner with the rating you provide.

"I know this is a critical skill at USAA. I rate my communication skills as a 9/10 as I will, on occasion, have times when I am not as clear as I would like to be. My supervisor and co-workers will attest to my clear and concise communication skills. Because I am an open leader, my team will let me know if I need to clarify anything."

"I will rate myself an 8 because I value communication but, just like most people, I have things to learn. Some ways that I ensure clear communication are by utilizing multiple methods of delivering messages and I give ample time for questions before implementing changes. With communication being such a critical skill, especially to USAA, I am always working to improve that skill."

I’d rate myself a 9 with communication skills. Not only am I open-minded and can see all sides to a situation, but when someone is speaking I listen without interruption and ask if they are done before I respond. I think that a lot of the time communication fails when you don’t listen and chime in when the other isn’t finished with their thought.
