"I once had to deliver some equipment to a customer, and they left instructions to store it in their side yard. But when I arrived, they had a beast of a dog outside in an ornery mood. I first tried to offer the dog some biscuits, but that didn't work. So I instead asked a neighbour if they were friendly with this animal. They were and were able to assist me in gaining the dog's trust. In the end, everything went fine, and I hadn't lost too much time."

Your interviewer is trying to assess your skill as a professional and determine whether you possess the emotional intelligence necessary to think quickly on your feet rather than freezing up and suffering from task paralysis. Before your interview, reflect on your skills and those instances where you were resourceful or took quick, swift action to resolve an unexpected issue. Primarily, you want to express that you already embrace their values. "Collecting, processing and delivering the nation's mail and parcels means that everyone is required to take a responsible approach to their work, to customers and colleagues whilst maintaining appropriate standards of conduct and behaviour, including following any reasonable instructions from their manager."

When I worked in a bar, both my managers were away and I was left in charge for 2 weeks. During this time there was an issue with the chef and he didn't turn up to work, there was only one member of staff in to work on the bar and we had customers in who wanted to order food so I went in the kitchen and made food from a reduced menu until another member of staff could come in. I had no kitchen experience but it was interesting to learn on the job.

This sounds like it would have been a stressful situation! It's a good example to use to show that you can remain calm under pressure, critically think, and swiftly take action to solve a problem. Great job!
