Most of HireVue's interview questions are designed as situational judgment questions, asking about a situation you've been in, your course of action, and the results or consequences of your actions. These behavioral questions are designed to assess what you know about the job, your competencies, and your hard skills. How you answer stands to reveal your soft skills, such as emotional intelligence, communication skills, empathy, resourcefulness, ability to work as a team, and initiative.
When answering this question, go into greater detail than what you've listed on your resume. Don't just cover your grades or what you learned from the classes you took. Breathe life into your educational experience. Share what you learned from any mentors, your leadership experiences, or anything else that helped build your character or furthered you down the path of your career.
Your answer should follow a story-based structure when answering a HireVue question. Avoid rambling and be as concise as possible. Communicate clearly and use the recommended STAR method when structuring your answers. Address each answer by first offering the SITUATION involved with your example. Then move into the TASK this situation required. Then share the ACTION you took and the RESULT of your actions. Taking this approach for each question will help you ensure clarity and consistency throughout your interview, keep your answers under three minutes, and meet the algorithm's criteria for passing your interview onto the recruiter.
"Well, not only did I graduate at the top of my class, but I was on our varsity sports team. I started several clubs, helping draft their charters, and had several mentors, from a varsity coach to professors who also served as coaches. Each mentor was instrumental in the shaping of my character as a professional and as a leader."
