"I have always kept myself in pique physical condition, and continue to do so through weight lifting, long-distance cardio, and CrossFit. I am in the best shape of my life and will commit to maintaining a strong workout regime throughout my career with CBSA. Although physical fitness naturally contributes to mental health and stability, I am sure to prepare myself further through guided meditations, reading books on leadership, and even taking the time to train my memory and attention through Luminocity brain games."

I trained myself physically by changing my exercise regimen to include more functional movements, rather than simply lift weights. I joined a local MMA gym. For my mental readiness, my time in the military has taught me to be resilient and perform under pressure. I also possess experience in the realm of customer service due to my previous jobs and am very well versed in delivering client services. Due to the nature of the BSO's duties in dealing with difficult people and situations, I have also undertaken training on how to interact with distressed individuals.

Rachelle's Feedback
It's clear that you have put in a lot of prep work - this is excellent! The range of skills you will bring to the role is impressive, and you do a great job qualifying yourself.

Before the pandemic, I was going to the gym regularly to stay in shape; however, since the gyms have closed I've turned to at-home workouts and various online fitness challenges to keep myself fit. Working out also makes me feel good, mentally.

Rachelle's Feedback
Good for you! The interviewers should appreciate that you overcame the roadblock (gyms being closed) and found a workaround to keep yourself motivated, physically, and mentally healthy.

I have taken my time learning and studying the code of conduct that is found on the government website, as well as learning trade laws, since that is necessary when working at CBSA. I have also read articles about the day to day routine of a CBSA officer and what they may encounter.

Rachelle's Feedback
Good for you! It sounds as though you have worked very hard to prepare yourself for the expectations of the CBSA. The topics you have approached are all excellent choices (code of conduct, trade law, day-to-day role expectations).

Physically, I maintain a work out schedule that includes both cardio and strength training. With my local gym being closed, I maintain this work out at home. Before the local shut down, I also added 3 kickboxing classes on top of my regular work out schedule.
Mentally, I meditate 10 minutes daily as well as I read regularly. I read novels, different avenues of self-care & mindfulness, leadership, and I have recently familiarized myself with reading books on law and enforcement to better help my understanding going forward.

Rachelle's Feedback
It's terrific that you have been able to maintain your workouts at home, despite the shutdowns. It sounds like you are very diligent with your physical and mental health. Self-care is crucial, and your interviewer should feel assured that you are well-prepared for the demands of a career with CBSA. Which books have you found most helpful when learning about law and law enforcement? Adding in this detail will show the interviewer that you lean on reputable resources.
