How do you get along with others at work?
The interviewer wants to gauge what the dynamics of your relationships look like in the workplace. Share some of the relationships you've built and maintained with past coworkers, and your current job or previous ones. One of Nordstrom's core values is "WE EXTEND OURSELVES: We treat each other with respect and kindness. We do the small things that make a big difference. We create a welcoming environment, helping people feel connected, valued and part of one community."
"I tend to get along well with my coworkers, and if occasionally something comes up, I am prompt and specific in my non-defensive communication, so it doesn't get out of hand nor create a divisive work environment. I'm a supportive team player. More than anything, I want always to be positive and respectful towards those with whom I work."
How you answer this question will enable your interviewer to envision how well you would fit in with and work with their current teams. Despite how nervous a candidate may potentially be, an interviewer is hyperaware to the fact that the person they are interviewing is putting on their best performance. How you answer will help your interviewer assess how well you would perform as a team player once hired. So be mindful that those teammates whom you have yet to meet haven't had a chance to interview you yet, and their trust must be earned as well. So share your approach to building relationships and earning the trust of those who were there before you. Showcase how the performance you are giving now is what they can expect from you once hired.
