Be willing to undergo any steps they require as a prerequisite for the job. Regardless of your past or whether you are worried about what a background check might turn up, be transparent and share your concerns, offering context to any marks on your record. Nordstrom even states that they "will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with all legal requirements." Therefore, it is important to conduct yourself with integrity when answering this question. Trying to hide something, or hoping it might not turn up, will simply exhibit a lack of integrity.
