Try changing this from a 'we' statement to a 'you' statement. This question is to show the interviewer how you specifically stay up to date on current events. As the answer is right now, it sounds like you are attempting to give a lesson to the interviewer.
"To remain up to date on related current events, I use social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. I stay involved in my community and with various groups who create awareness around our regions' business landscape. It's important also that I watch the news and keep updated on current global events."

In today's era, social media is king in terms of getting immediate information on anything taking place. And then from there you can dive into Google and get the full details on what is actually taking place.
