Olivia Orwin, NAV CANADA's New Surveillance Systems Engineering Manager, said, "We live in a fast-paced world where it is not uncommon for people to change jobs every few years, moving on because of new interests, career path change, or better work opportunities. What surprised me is that I can find all of this within NAV CANADA."

"Overall, my career has progressed slower than I would have liked. I have held a few positions that didn't offer the growth and learning I expected; however, I have bounced back nicely. I feel that this position would take my career exactly where I would want to go."

"I have been meticulous when paving my career path. Things have gone very well for me so far, and I am thankful for that. I've turned down a few promotions that I felt would take me off course; those were difficult decisions at the time, and I don't regret them. However, this position with NAV CANADA will be a perfect complement to my short-term and long-term career plan and the opportunities for growth from within which NAV CANADA has to offer."

Career progression rarely follows a linear path, and for some, it can be a touchy subject, especially for those who feel their career hasn't progressed as well as they would have liked. How you respond will inform your interviewer of your perspective, emotional intelligence, and commitment to your career path. Talk to the interviewer about your career progression, what you learned from your detours, the skills you picked up along the way, and how you turned any setbacks into positives by using those takeaways to shore up your success in the future.

Yes, I have not progressed as I have expected. I wanted more side of engineering come out. But I am still taking time. But I will get there with this company if opportunity as offered.

Rachelle's Feedback
I suggest rewording this a bit, as a yes and no in the same sentence is confusing. I have offered a revision, below.

Overall I haven't progressed as fast as I would have liked but I feel this position within NAV CANADA will put me back on track to where I want to be.
Marcie's Feedback
Can you give more details about why your progression has been slower than anticipated? Also, how will this position put you back on track? Back on track to achieve what exactly?

Based on the twist and turns of life, I would say that my career has progressed as quickly as it could have. I have held a few positions that haven't provided me with the growth and learning opportunities I have been looking for. I am very confident this career path with Nav Canada will be challenging and rewarding, with many opportunities for professional development and growth.

I graduated high school in June 2022, so I have not had a career. This is the career I have always endeavored since I was a child. Since I don't have a career yet, I have progressed beyond my expectations in my post-secondary studies and working towards my goal.
Marcie's Feedback
Great! Can you talk more about why you've always wanted this job? What about it appeals to you? How are your personality and skillset suited to it? Where do you aspire to progress within this career path? (Is there a particular level you'd like to get to one day like management?)
