This question is aimed at evaluating your approach to problem-solving, assessing risk, and your approach to risk-taking when faced with the unexpected. How a candidate answers this question will help them distinguish those who take informed and calculated risks from those who are habitual risk takers and those who are risk averse. Boeing describes their attitude toward risk-taking on their website where they state that they "reward predictability and stability everywhere in our business. Instituting predictability and stability across our business will support our priorities and prepare us to face the unexpected. While it's important to acknowledge extraordinary efforts to overcome unplanned obstacles to our work, it's even more important to establish and celebrate the everyday planning, execution and discipline that set us up for success."
HireVue's customizable interview guides, crafted by their IO psychology research teams, empower the assessment model to pose relevant questions that elicit responses it can analyze to predict job performance. Therefore, each of HireVue's assessments is tailored to match the specific requirements of a particular role, employing clear performance indicators to evaluate candidates. These customizations enable their assessment models to effectively distinguish the most promising and least promising performers. Additionally, the model identifies the skills and characteristics most crucial for success in that specific position, identifying candidates who align with the company's objectives and culture.

"During your HireVue assessment interview, the AI will evaluate your overall communication skills. This assessment encompasses your choice of words, the message you convey, the structure of your storytelling, and your fluency of speech. Be mindful of unintentional signals that could lead the assessment model to misinterpret your answers. Record yourself to ensure you're not sending any unintended verbal or nonverbal cues. However, remain authentic. Excessively rehearsing your responses can make you appear wooden and uninspiring. Take time to reflect on your intended message and practice speaking in a natural and evenly paced tone. Enunciate your words clearly, avoiding stutters or prolonged pauses. Minimize the use of verbal fillers like "like," "um," or "you know." By following these guidelines, you'll project yourself as a clear communicator and a poised professional."

"We had an order for some large equipment which was currently in assembly. We were on target to meet our deadline, when a shipment for a crucial component arrived damaged. Our supplier held themselves accountable, and without being prompted, committed to replacing the hardware. But they explained replacing that component would take time, and they could replace it with another brand from a different manufacturer which they had an abundance of in stock. If we did replace it with the alternate component, we would've made our delivery deadline. However, the stakes were too high. We'd never tested that manufacturer's hardware before, and taking a gamble on an unknown was a risk I wasn't willing to take. So I asked our supplier to do what they could to expedite the replacement shipment. I then calculated the delay, looked at every method to manage our project to make up for lost time, and informed our client of the window of the delay, informing them with transparency on our decision and thought processes."
