How you answer this question will give your interview a glimpse of your work ethic. Ideally, you want to come across as the type of employee that considers going above and beyond as their standard. Show that you try to keep the big-picture in your scope. Anticipating the needs of your leadership or teams, and going the extra mile in your day-to-day performance goes a long way here.

"Last week I noticed that my manager had not completed the schedule for the following week. Some of the staff were complaining that they didn't have their work schedule yet. Rather than going to my manager with the complaint, I offered to take on some of her workload so that she would have the time to complete the schedule. We worked together for a couple of overtime hours that day and were able to catch her up on everything. It felt good to help."

"I'd like to think that I go above and beyond most days. I help out my colleagues when they are running behind. I work overtime hours when they are requested of me. And, I spend more time ensuring that safety practices are followed, than the average individual in our department."

I had a colleague who had a family emergency and he was going to be coming in late for the next 2 days. I let my supervisor know that I could stay later and make sure his shift was covered so he could handle his emergency worry-free. I am always willing to work overtime when asked by my supervisor and make sure workload expectations are met.
