I do get motivated by incentives. Or at least, the fairer I feel that I'm being treated, the more motivated I am to go that extra mile. I enjoy working at a level where I can make an impact, but then my work needs to be recognized and appreciated. It's important to me that the incentives match the effort and performance I put in.

I only work on projects aligned to my core mission in life, where my intrinsic motivation keeps me excited to get up each day. Along the way, being acknowledged of the smaller milestones goes a long way to keeping energy up. It's a nice-to-have where the company is being thoughtful in ways of showing appreciation, but I'm personally not as motivated by smaller carrots.

The interviewer should gain a lot of insight from this answer when it comes to motivating you. Nice response!
