The service offers this content to hook viewers, creating loyal subscribers who eagerly await the next season of their favorite shows. Original programming is everything, long term. You can spend on licensing titles, but in the end, have no control. Look at Disney. It's contributing roughly 70% toward new subscribers (at least in kids/family), and this year they launch Disney and remove their titles. Now what? Invest in IP. Once you have a hit, turn it into a franchise the way Sesame Street and others have done.
