It is okay to brag a little bit when answering this question. Show that you are proud of yourself and your career accomplishments within law enforcement. Talking about your most significant achievement will give the interviewer a definite idea of where you place your values. It will also show the interviewer more about your personality, how you like to be motivated, and how to coach you in the future.

"The greatest accomplishment in my border patrol career was being recognized by my peers with the Humanity Award last year. I try to be very involved in my community, and it felt great to be recognized for my dedication."

"I would have to say my greatest accomplishment was increasing drug seizures by 25% in the past three years in my post. I am proud that I have been able to lead by example and train other junior officers to look more carefully for the signs of drug use and smuggling."

Focus on keeping your response related to law enforcement since that is what the interviewer specifically asked. At this point in the interview, they are not asking about personal accomplishments.

I have never been a law enforcement officer. However, I have worked with a few during the war. We made sure that vehicles and personnel leaving and returning to the country had nothing illegal on their person or stored in vehicles.

Rachelle's Feedback
Although you don't have direct experience, you do a nice job highlighting the exposure that you do have. This is a smart approach.

I am still fairly new to my career as far as a field position goes however, I can say I achieved well above a 3.0 GPA while obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and while also working full time at my current job. For the last 11 years, I have worked an 8-5 job from a desk dealing with federal law. This position was convenient and somewhat related to my field of study as I was faced with a difficult personal family matter that would have made it difficult for me to maintain a field position earlier in my timeline. But I can say the experience I have acquired over the years has prepared me for diligent and stressful work and I feel confident, ready, and capable of fulfilling a position within your agency. I'm very well aware and in a position where I will be able to work around the clock as required and most of all face dangerous and unpredictable situations that come with the position.

Great reply! You've done a good job of describing this accomplishment and the details surrounding it, which will help to make it memorable to the interviewer. It's also relevant to the role you're trying to get, which is perfect. Excellent!
