Perhaps you have led a team at work, been a coach for a youth sports team, or were on the advisory board for a non-profit organization. You should always be prepared to show the interviewer that you have a natural ability to lead others. Whether you have led a group of 500 or a team of 2, you must display to the interviewer that you can handle the responsibility that comes with being a leader and mentor.

"In my current department, I am the president of the community volunteer committee. I love that I have the opportunity to encourage employee engagement while being a positive influence on the workplace culture. I am a natural leader because I start by leading by example. As a leader, I make myself available to others who need mentorship, assistance in adjusting to their role, or just a listening ear when they've had a tough day. I am confident in my leadership abilities."

"I do see myself as a leader. I currently show my leadership skills by being a mentor to brand new patrol officers, showing them some things they can do to advance their careers. Because I am newer to my career but have advanced quickly, I feel that my perspective is valuable for recruits."

"Yes, I see myself as a leader. Not only have I managed a team in two prior roles, but I also believe that leadership does not always equate to management. I am sure to lead at all times by providing the best model of enthusiasm and work ethic."

I do see myself as an interdisciplinary leader. I led Marines. I led Corrections Officers. As importantly, I lead a family. I have lead Classroom Learning Communities among my fellow teachers-education students while in college. While I often wait until I am confident in my experience level within a job to apply for higher positions, my general attitude has been to lead. This disposition has grown as I have aged.

Rachelle's Feedback
You showcase natural leadership skills in a variety of situations, which any interviewer should be happy to hear. Well crafted answer.

I have led a series of teams as a soldier on the battlefield. Upon returning from Afghanistan, most units were getting into trouble for alcohol or other related problems. I sat down with my platoon and spoke with them about the importance of not ruining their future by getting into trouble. My platoon was the only one in the Battalion that never had a soldier being charged for any discipline-related-issues.

Rachelle's Feedback
Amazing! This is an incredible outcome and one that says volumes about your leadership skills and value as a mentor.

I do see myself as a leader. As you will learn from my resume, I've held some positions that have allowed me to lead to the best of my ability. During my high school years, I had the privilege of becoming a yearbook editor and cheerleading captain. Before I graduated I got my first job as a sales rep at a shoe store and after some months I became store manager. At my current job, I provide training for incoming receptionists when hired. Just like I can lead I equally enjoy the opportunity to learn from others. I feel like there is always room for growth in the leadership department.
