Focus on letting the interviewer know you understand how to decompress away from work, so you are ready to mentally handle the pressures of your job. When members of law enforcement understand the stress factor of their job and have healthy ways to relieve stress, they are less apt to burn out or become sick or injured from stress.

I generally handle stress well. Instinctively, I seek to know about what factors I control, which factors I share joint control of with colleagues, and what factors I do not control at all. This is a stoic exercise, but it has helped me in academics. I cannot tell you that I can make stress vanish, but I can manage it.

Your answer is perfect and shows the interviewer that you are capable of handling stressful situations with maturity and professionalism.

By understanding that stress is a natural part of the job and find ways to prioritize and put things into perspective as a way to mitigate concerns.

Rachelle's Feedback
That is a good start. Do you have any more tangible/measurable ways of dealing with stress? Try offering up an example of how you have coped in the past during previously high stake situations.

I am well aware that stress is part of any demanding job such as this one. I've learned to prioritize work to help me stay organized and on track with deadlines. This will typically minimize the stress on the job. Every now & then I will meditate or conduct short breathing exercises that will help me cope & better manage any added stress.
Marcie's Feedback
Great! The interviewer will be happy to hear that you use methods like meditation and breathing exercises to relieve stress. This shows that you are proactive when it comes to your mental health. It's also good that you talk about prioritizing tasks because this will help prevent you from becoming overwhelmed. Another thing you can sometimes do is delegate and other stress relief methods might include listening to music, conversing with colleagues at lunch, and taking a quick walk outside.
Prepare for rigorous federal law enforcement interviews with expert-written responses.
