Change for improvement's sake is inevitable in any working environment, especially in the healthcare field. Employees need to be receptive to change and understand why process improvements will help affect the patient. Your interviewer will be looking to hear that you are receptive to change in the workplace. Think of a recent improvement you were a part of, and let your interviewer know that you could fully comprehend all aspects of the change while remaining open-minded about working in a new way.

"A couple of years ago, a change in our electronic health record system was a major switch in how we went about our work days. At first, many of my colleagues were not very receptive to learning a new system, which prompted a few to find new jobs. Being the type of person that wants to know what a change will affect in the end, after our initial meetings and training, it was easy to see that the new EHR would make our work days much more efficient once we were trained. On top of that, more accurate patient records would be able to ensure that our patients were receiving the most up-to-date care possible. That was a win in my book."

"Having spent most of my career in the home health setting seeing patients, the advent of home monitoring systems for patients with heart disease and other heart issues has greatly changed how we focus our time with these patients. Knowing that I would have to do a lot of training on the new systems once the announcement came of our use of them, I was initially skeptical that the machines would be difficult to learn and potentially work me out of a job. But I quickly realized that not only would the systems be great for the patients due to the fact the re-hospitalization rates would significantly decline, but they'd also give me more face-to-face time with the patients versus them being hospitalized. This was a big positive for everyone involved."

During Covid, we have needed to wear extra PPE, as well as require that the patients wear masks. Wearing the extra PPE has helped to ensure the the patients remain safe, as well as the staff. I have been open to this change because as a nurse, I'm there to advocate for my patients and keep them safe.

Rachelle's Feedback
This additional PPE requirement is a great example of responding to change in the workplace. What a change this must be! Your answer is good; however, one way to strengthen it is to discuss what you know about Ramsay's commitment to patient care. This addition to your answer will show that you have actively researched the organization before your interview.
