Having some knowledge of digital marketing is helpful as the development of Marketing Automation platforms and tools as you understand which product specifications and capabilities would be important for marketers managing digital campaigns. It is important to, at least on a general level, understand the process marketers go through from planning to launching to tracking.

"Through my prior work experience, I had the opportunity to work with a few marketing teams tasked with the launch and management of digital marketing campaigns. My role was to ensure, from a technical perspective, that they had the necessary tools to successfully launch and evaluate their campaigns. Although this was not specifically a developer role, I learned a great deal about the needs of a digital marketer, and I believe, with the combination of this knowledge and my technical skills, I can make major contributions to Marketo's Marketing Automation platform."
