Your interviewer is curious about what you perceive as a conflict and how you react. Responding to a conflict can be tough, especially in a team environment where you want to be sensitive and not step on any toes. Your interviewer needs to ensure anyone they hire will be professional and work towards building relationships with the teams that were there before them.

"My coworker was a great salesman but horrible at the administrative side. He made many mistakes and showed no signs of improvement. It bothered several teammates who took pride in the quality of their work. I decided to talk with him and found out he wasn't very clear about expectations or how to do some of the basic aspects of the paperwork for each sale. I then coached him a bit and encouraged him to take on additional training to get on the same page as the rest of the team. He did so, and the problem was fixed, benefitting everyone."

"In my current position, there has been a concern with workplace bullying. There is a particular group of individuals who 'lead the pack,' so to speak. The situation became out of control a few months ago, and I had to involve human resources and conduct a few exit interviews. It is never easy having to terminate employees; however, I avidly support our code of ethics and believe in doing the right thing, even when it is hard."
