Advice and answer examples written specifically for an IT Business Consultant job interview.
15. What software development methodologies do you have experience in?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Many companies have transitioned to agile or lean implementation models that take an iterative approach to solution development. An interviewer who asks this question wants to ensure that you have experience working with the specific methodologies they use or want to transition to in the future.

What to Avoid
Avoid embellishing your experience in agile methodologies if you have limited working knowledge of the practices and procedures. Each agile method has unique and specific deliverables, roles, responsibilities, ceremonies, and estimation methods. This question has the potential for follow-up questions regarding certifications or time spent in various roles and interviewers with knowledge of these processes will be able to identify candidates who are dishonest.

Answer Example
"I began my career as an analyst and project manager implementing waterfall methodology projects. The company I worked for shifted to using agile methodologies early in my career. I am trained in scrum and kanban and I have managed teams that follow each. I have served as a product owner and scrum master and I understand the roles involved and the delivery expectations within each methodology."
