Question 28 of 35

What decisions are easiest for you to make? What are the most difficult?

"The decisions that come easiest to me are the ones that only affect me. When I know others will be impacted by my decisions, it is harder to come to a definitive decision. I like to consider diverse perspectives and be mindful of all who will be impacted by my decision, which makes it more complicated. When a decision is really tough, I like to make a pros and cons list and consult others for their input."

      How to Answer

Consider a time you were able to make a quick decision without much deliberation and hesitation. Then, consider a time you had to make a difficult decision that required careful thought. Determine what was different about those two instances. Maybe one of them was low stakes while the other was risky or expensive. Maybe the easier decision only affected you rather than a team of people. Whatever the case is, share with the interviewer what makes a decision easy or difficult and how you thoughtfully make those decisions.

Why the Interviewer Asks This Question

The interviewer asks this to determine if you are a decisive person and what you consider before making a big decision. Share all the information you consider before coming to a decision, as that demonstrates what you value and the thought you put into each decision. Emphasize that when your decisions impact other people, you are thorough, thoughtful, unbiased, and true to the organization's values.
