If a student or parent called to dispute an admissions decision, how would you respond?

Tell the interviewer that you would follow the school's protocol for a situation like this, but even more importantly, that you would remain calm and continue to represent the school well. Parents can be fierce advocates for their children, and they want to feel heard and validated. But you may have to deliver tough news. Describe how you would go about sharing the next steps with the family with respect and tact.

The interviewer wants to see how you would position yourself in an uncomfortable situation. State that you would follow the school's protocol and walk them through the appeals process. The key is to remain cool, calm, and collected and relay the appropriate information, making sure to not take anything personally.

"I believe most people want to be listened to. I would listen to the parent and then calmly and respectfully explain the decision. I would remind them of the admission requirements, and if there was an option to appeal the decision, I would walk them through that process."
