As I screen candidates and listen to them reference a job skill or a project that they have performed, I tend to review their resume, check employment dates and ask additional penetrating questions to make sure I understand how they attained their skills. If a candidate is reluctant or not willing to answer in detail this request, it raises a major red flag for me and I will intentionally ask for more details on other questions.

As a recruiter, you must be able to discern truth from lies, candidates may provide a good looking resume, employment history with possible gaps and you must invest time during the initial screening call to review the accuracy and validity of the information.
