The five years from now question often comes up in an interview to test how seriously you take your career. Career-minded individuals often compose a five-year career plan, which they adjust periodically. This exhibits strong project management skills and a big picture lens of the world. One can achieve the seemingly insurmountable by breaking macro goals into easily attainable micro goals. Take a look at the career growth options with the company. If any of these stand out to you, mention them to the interviewer. Your expressed interest in those particular internal opportunities will solidify that you are seeking a long-term fit with them.

"I am looking for a long-term fit in my next position. As you can see, I had strong progress and career growth in my previous company. I would love to see the same success with your company. I did notice on your website that you have global leadership opportunities. If I could work my way into a role like that, I would be thrilled."

I definitely see myself working for Qantas, hopefully in a business or first class position to really demonstrate and utilize my fine dining experience. My goal is also to be fluent in Italian, as I understand this is a revered language to have within the sector that I wish to only expand upon.

Alexandra's Feedback
I really like this answer! I'm sure your resume would answer this, but one thing I would be curious about if I were the interviewer is whether you know any Italian or not yet, and whether you are already working on pursuing this goal.

I hope to see myself in five years from now moving my way in a leadership role within your company. I want to be soaring about the earth at 35,000 feet with a smile on my face.

Rachelle's Feedback
If you do some research on Qantas try to find a specific leadership role and the responsibilities that come with the job. Be specific on what you would want to do, and how you will get there.
