Career progression can be a touchy subject, especially if you feel that your career hasn't progressed as well as you would have liked. Talk to the interviewer about your career progression and what you would like to see in the future.
"Overall, my career has progressed slower than I would have liked. I have held a couple of positions that didn't offer the growth and learning I was expecting; however, I have bounced back nicely. I feel that this particular position would take my career exactly where it should be."

Remember to demonstrate resiliency in your response if you have experienced career progression setbacks. Interviewers value candidates that can rebound when faced with an unexpected challenge.

I worked for several years after high school to make the money needed to put myself through college because I wanted to be able to focus full time on my classes without worrying about working or acquiring large student loans. Well, yes and no! It took me a while to figure out what I would like to do with my career. I only had a chance to start my degree when I reached 30, and that was only 4 years ago. I then got caught in that catch-22 we all know – not being hired because I had no experience, but having no experience because I wasn’t hired anywhere! I only found my calling a little less than 3 years ago, so there was only little opportunity for progression, but I already do more, and being responsible for more than anyone can wish for after only just a few years.
