Advice and answer examples written specifically for a Superintendent job interview.
10. In what area do you feel you need the most professional development? What are you willing to do to strengthen yourself in that area?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
As a school superintendent, you must have a wide range of skills and abilities, as this role has many expectations. In your role, it's essential to continually assess the strengths and weaknesses of your staff and yourself and identify areas where professional development could be beneficial. Some possible areas for professional development include technology integration in the classroom, differentiated instruction strategies, cultural competency and sensitivity, trauma-informed teaching practices, and effective communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues. Additionally, staying up-to-date on changes in education policy and best practices can also contribute to the ongoing professional growth and success of educators. Share with the interviewer an area you would like to strengthen and how you will do so. Ensure that you do not give an example that would be a red flag for the interviewer (i.e., I don't like being around large groups of people).

Answer Example
"I think I could strengthen my abilities regarding the physical demands of the job. I have always been healthy and athletic, but I attended many conferences last year and was more sedentary than usual. Lately, I have been exercising more and eating better so that I can be more physically active in the schools. This role requires a lot of walking, standing, and physical involvement, so I am working hard to improve my physical health and endurance."
